August Marhenke, a pioneer resident of Allen county died Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock at his home in Adams township, of Bright's disease. He had been ill five months. Mr Marhenke was eighty-two years of age. He was born June 2, 1822 in Marienhagen, Lauenstein, hanover, Germany, coming to America and directly to Adams township in 1853. He was employed for a time in the construction of the Pennsylvania railroad, later engaging in farming. He was a frugal, industrious man of sound sense and high ability and he prospered greatly, building up a comfortable competence for himself and his family.
He was married in 1855 to Mrs Louise (Meyer) Bradtmiller, whose death occurred in 1893.
He is survived by six children: Henry Marhenke of Adams township; August Marhenke of Bennett, Neb; Fred, Christian and Miss Wilhelmina Marhenke and Mrs William Engelbrecht of Adams township. There are also two stepdaughters, Mrs George Hitzeman of Fort Wayne, and Mrs Christian Roesner of Woodburn.
The funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12:30 pm at the residence and at the Rev Stocks' church (Martini) in Adams township. Fort Wayne Journal Gazette ? May 28, 1905
